The PowerKnights are sad to announce the passing of a former mechanical parent mentor. John Slebodnick joined our team in 2004 and stayed on after his son’s graduation to help with robot build. In 2008 John injured his back and was not able to help out after that. We named our 2009 Lunacy robot “Slebodnick” in his honor. One of our former mentors Jefferson Hall remembers him fondly, “John helped in any way he could, but mostly he was one of our expert machinists and all around nice guy. He taught me a lot about turning handles in that machine shop. He had a canny mechanical mind and was a major contributor to the team’s success during that time.”
John’s obituary can be read here

The PowerKnights wrapped up a very successful competition season on April 8th at UNH.
For our first event at WPI, we ranked 3rd of 40 teams and were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
In our second event at Bedford HS, we ranked 5th of 41 teams and proceeded to the semifinals. We were also awarded the Excellence in Engineering Award.
At the New England District Championship we seeded 9th, and captained the #8 alliance. We were eliminated after two matches by the eventual winner of the event. We have the dubious honor of having the highest losing score (470 points) in all of FIRST so far this year.
Our alliance partners were Manchester Central and Manchester School of Technology. This is the first and only time that an All-Manchester Alliance has competed at a modern FIRST event.
Our team qualified for the FIRST World Championships in St Louis, MO being held at the end of the month, ranking #19 out of 194 teams in New England.
Thank you for your continued support of The PowerKnights.
We will be verifying student numbers for the UNH competition early this week.
The DC will be April 6,7,8 at the UNH Whittemore Center. We will be providing transportation.
More information as it becomes available.
